Over the weekend I came down with Olympic fever. Did you catch it too? It seems that every two years (summer and winter) I join millions of people around the world who get caught up in the spectacle, the pomp and circumstance, the emotions, the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat, the grace and competiveness of the athletes and the pure joy of watching someone perform at the highest level.
As I was watching some of the events I began to think about some of the similarities that exist between the Olympics and the athletes who compete and Recruiting and the candidates we represent.
Think of recruiting as the Olympic trials. A number of athletes in specific events compete for just a few spots, to represent their country at the Olympics. And only a few will qualify for the finals and have a chance to medal.
Sounds a lot like the process of sourcing, screening and selecting of just a few qualified, interested and available candidates who will be presented to a hiring manager and have a chance to get the job offer.
The other thought that I had (the fever is getting worse) was how some terms and the names of some events themselves have some association with our jobs and our work life in general.
Consider the following; in gymnastics the balance beam, uneven bars, parallel bars; in track and field, the sprint, the team relay, the marathon; in weightlifting, the press, the clean and jerk; in boxing, the knockout; in archery, the bulls eye; in soccer, the goal; in tennis, the ace and in basketball, the Dream Team.
As I said at the beginning, I do have Olympic fever, so before I begin to hyperventilate, here are some of our Hot Jobs for this week, each one is looking for that Gold Medal winner. Is that you?
- Senior Security Engineer – Englewood, CO, Great company, Great Industry. A real Olympic type position.
- Software Architect – Help build your career and a great company at the same time.
- .NET Developer – Only for Rugby enthusiasts or those who know what Agile/SCRUM is.
If finding a great job were an Olympic event would you medal? Only you can answer that. But, while you are considering it, be sure to Like, Retweet, Pin it, and +1 this post. You never know who is going to see the positions and think that it is the perfect position for them.
Remember, at Q4B all our clients are looking for the best, the Olympians. What will it be, Gold, Silver or Bronze?
I think I will watch some of the diving events this week, that should bring down the fever.
